Applied Analytics Chlorine Process Analyzer
Utilizing full-spectrum acquisition, the OMA measures chlorine concentration across a wide range—from high percentage levels to trace ppm—delivering seamless accuracy. The OMA detects the unique absorbance curve of pure Cl₂ and isolates this signature mathematically from the total sample absorbance, directly correlating the curve's intensity with real-time chlorine concentration.
Continuous monitoring of chlorine compounds is essential for maintaining the smooth operation of various industrial processes. A key requirement across all such applications is that the monitoring instrument must withstand the highly corrosive nature of chlorine compounds. Additionally, given the toxicity and/or explosiveness of some of these compounds, chlorine analysis systems must be designed with a strong emphasis on operator safety.
Key Advantages of the OMA Chlorine Analyzer:
- Continuously measures up to four chemical concentrations using dispersive UV-Vis absorbance spectroscopy.
- Solid-state construction with no moving parts—modern design ensures low maintenance.
- Ultra-safe fiber optic design with a dedicated sample flow cell—no exposure of toxic or corrosive sample fluid within the analyzer enclosure.
- Long-lasting xenon light source (average lifespan of 5 years).
- Customized sample conditioning design using Teflon wetted parts, ensuring resistance to long-term corrosion.
- Proven reliability with over a decade of field performance in the most demanding industrial environments.
Applications:
- NCl₃ in CCl₄
- FeCl₃ in ethylene dichloride (EDC)
- TiCl₄ in titanium dioxide pigment production
- VOCl₃ (vanadium oxytrichloride)
Chlorine Absorbance Spectrum:
To measure chlorine concentration, the OMA identifies the distinctive absorbance curve of pure Cl₂ and isolates this structure from the total sample absorbance. In accordance with the Beer-Lambert Law, the OMA correlates the curve’s height directly to the real-time chlorine concentration.
Sampling:
The OMA is designed for direct analysis of hot/wet samples, simplifying the sample system while maintaining high sample integrity. With extensive experience in sampling design, we recognize that while applications may be similar, they are rarely identical. Therefore, we design and build sample conditioning systems on a project-by-project basis, tailored specifically from the process requirements to the final design.
